2 Peter 1:4 –
"Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by
these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption
that is in the world through lust.”
In
verse 2 of this passage, Peter mentions grace and peace. In verse 3, he
mentions divine power
and life and godliness and glory and virtue.
These, together with the great and precious promises of verse 4, are
what cause us to be partakers of that divine nature. That means that we who were bound by the old
sinful nature now have a new divine nature.
We receive this new nature at the moment of our salvation. And that new divine nature is just as real in
us as the old sinful nature.
Now,
if the old sinful nature were allowed to run its course, we would be condemned
to a devil’s hell because of the total corruption that sin brings about. But because we now have the new divine nature
within us, we have “escaped the
corruption that is in the world through lust.” This means
that we don’t have to go to hell. We are
lost no more. We escape the terrible
consequences of sin.
Isn’t
that worth praising Him for? Not only
does He give us grace and peace and power and life and godliness and glory and
virtue and all the precious promises of His Word, but He also gives us the
greatest promise of all – that the sin-debt has been paid and He no longer
requires payment from us. We are now partakers of His divine nature – we are
one with Him!! Praise His dear Name!
Precious Promises
The precious promises we find in God’s Word
Reveal to us the great love of our Lord
His tender mercies to man giving us salvation’s plan
Testify to us His wondrous grace outpoured.
The blessed peace that the Spirit imparts
Is brought by fully trusting God in our hearts.
If we lean on His strong arm, He protects us from all harm
And shields us from the wicked one’s fiery darts.
When we will glorify our Father above,
He fills our lives with the power of His Love.
If we praise His Holy Son, He will make us to be one
Through the presence of His sweet heavenly dove.
